Here are a few favorite reads from this Summer Season. Leave a comment with a recommended read when you’re done. And thank you for being here.
Completed
I have long known God is near but I didn’t believe I could hear him frequently and reliably. That changed with this book:
“The presence of the physical world no longer has to be a barrier between me and God. My visible surroundings become, instead, God’s gift to me, where I am privileged to see the rule of heaven realized through my friendship with Jesus.”
Dallas Willard, Hearing God
Trillion Dollar Coach by Eric Schmidt
A couple friends have been growing their executive coaching business and so I gifted them a copy of Trillion Dollar Coach and read it with them. I am considering opening a few coaching slots. Let me know if you would be interested.
“A coach is someone who tells you what you don’t want to hear, who has you see what you don’t want to see, so you can be who you have always known you could be.”
-Tom Landry
Everyone should have a fun summer read that makes them smarter and for me Roughing It was that book. Mark Twain at his best and definitely not recommended for children. It’s also free.
“Somebody has said that in order to know a community one must observe the style of its funerals and know what manner of men they bury with most ceremony.”
Mark Twain, Roughing It
The Smoke at Dawn by Jeff Shaara
The third entry in a fictional series set in the factual events that unfolded at the Battle of Chattanooga during the American Civil War.
I listened to this series on Audible and would recommend it to every American.
Saint Mark’s Gospel Account Chapters 6-9
I spent much of the Summer in deep study of Saint Mark’s Gospel Account, Chapters 6 through 9. While I have already shared many meditations from this text perhaps this bit from Jesus himself is perfect:
“If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”
Jesus according to Mark from Chapter 8
Up Next
I already have begun Paul MIllerd’s latest book and there have been so many resonate moments in the opening chapters I already know this one will be worth your time.
Level Up by Alvaro Nuñez Alfaro
I met Tony Giordano this Summer and this was the book he told me to read. Simple as that
Taliesin by Stephen R. Lawhead
In the spirit of Autumn and fiction and fantasy I’m starting the Pendragon Cycle. Hoping to complete this before the show comes out later this year.

I've been working through a physical copy of "Guadalupe and the Flower World Prophecy," which is filled to the brim with scholarship about indigenous Mexican philosophy & culture. It's easy to see why people were so eager to convert after the story & image of Our Lady spread... I thought I knew a lot about that background, but this book takes a more academic approach (although it's easy to read).
