Dude this is very enlightening. I work from home a lot and might try this, because I already get up at 5:30. I do all of this except watch YouTube instead of take a 20 minute nap, what an idea.

This is an interesting idea. I’m already wondering if I could fit three mornings into my day, lol.

What an amazing idea. I used to go for lunchtime naps during COVID work-from-home days and it worked so much better than coffee. The nap is the ultimate key but now that I'm back in the office, I've been "cutting off" my days with lunchtime sketches, walks around the park, or a brief visit to the museum. I'd always feel so great after that, I should do it more than 1x a week. Thanks for sharing, Steven!

Powerful reframing of The Siesta, supercharged with El Paseo. I'd never seen it like that, as a way to have multiple days within a day. Spot-on. I think there's even evolutionary evidence on the benefits of a siesta as an ideal complement of the main phase of sleep, and there's the Chinese proverb (that we might as well attribute to Zapata): "if you take 100 steps after each meal, you'll live to 99."

Thanks for bringing up this ancient wisdom and repackaging it as a productivity combo, allowing us to make the most out of our days!

As for these essays vs. Friday Library, can we have both?

This feels like the whole rhythm of life in Morelia. It's a beautiful thing and many of my family there have lived well into their 90s!

Claro que si, por que no los dos! jajaja.

All this time, I thought the occasional sleepiness after lunch was food coma. I’d feel guilty about napping, even viewing it as a problem worth solving by jabbing a continuous glucose monitor into me for months. Lunch, nap, walk — perhaps this is the way.

Pithy and pointed with something very practical. I have a fond memory of one of my most productive days working aboard a cruise ship in the middle of the Pacific Ocean day en route to Hawaii and I measured my day in how many cycles of sleep, exercise, eat, and practice I could fit into one day. I think my best day was three cycles.

Thank you for being apart of the inspiration to put this out there! I tried tagging you and Latham but something must be down at Substack with tagging other people. Perhaps they need a second morning!

Lovely essay. I particularly enjoyed the loop back at the end to the central idea which was playful and relatable.
